OUR MISSION
HayCoCoa organizes to ensure the land and resources that Hayward occupies and controls serves the community equitably. We prioritize collective democratic struggle through community organizing and stewardship in order to dismantle systems of oppression and develop community-owned alternatives.
OUR WORK
We formed in 2020 during the national uprisings in response to the death of George Floyd and the many others who were killed by police, including here in Hayward. During that time, we successfully organized for public safety reforms across the City including:
The creation of a mobile mental health crisis response team (the HEART program),
Securing $350k+ for 12 community projects across the city (Hayward People's Budget).
Since then we've:
Organized alongside teachers, parents, students, and workers to prevent the closure of six schools.
Won local elections for the Hayward Unified School District Board & Hayward City Council.
Organized with community members to support public demand for cancelling HUSD SRO contracts and keep cops out of our schools.
Secured half a million dollars in funding to provide legal aid for tenants experiencing evictions after the moratorium expired.
Pushed the City to divest from corporations supporting Israeli apartheid, making it the first in the country!
Every now and then, we also like to host street clean-ups to make sure Hayward remains a beautiful place to live.
